When your list goes above 2000, and you decide to move to another AR service, you will get an unpleasant surprise. Mailing lists are not directly transferable from one AR service to another. You basically have to start over, and get all of your subscribers to re-subscribe. That process will guarantee the loss of at least half of your list, and probably much more than half. If you are thinking about moving, the time is NOW, because the larger your list gets, the more painful the move will be.
George: Yeah, I’m excited to talk about email marketing too but, I’ll tell you what else I’m excited to talk about, Tom. Viewers, if you have been a viewer for a while, like all the episodes or a few of the episodes, you will agree with me, that today, we have two things on the show that are absolutely cool. One is Tom’s background and setup in general. Two, and I gotta switch to Tom when I say this, that hat people. That hat is awesome.
AWeber Communications, Inc. designs opt-in email marketing software for entrepreneurs and businesses worldwide. It was founded in 1998 by Tom Kulzer after he identified a gap in automated response software for customer support and sales leads. Tom capitalized on that opportunity by creating an “autoresponder software”, which is now popular as AWeber. Since then, AWeber has expanded into a team focused on helping more than 100,000 businesses achieve success with email.
Specifically Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL, Zendesk, rocketmail.com, and ymail.com have updated their DMARC record. DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) is used by many major organizations and ISPs to help them identify issues with email authentication abuse. While using DMARC is great for reducing email abuse issues, changes like the one that Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL, Zendesk, rocketmail.com, and ymail.com have made will have a widespread impact on its users.
One of our favorite business tools out there is the follow up marketing tool from Aweber. They offer auto responders – which are automated email messages, which you can configure to send messages to your customers any number of times, and any number of days, after their initial signup. This is a tremendous marketing tool that gets overlooked from many businesses because they may not realize the technology exists.
However, the web fonts that you can use in Mailchimp are exceptionally dull - so dull in fact that you might be better off using the web safe ones - they'll load more reliably and your e-newsletters will appear more consistently across email clients / devices. I love web fonts, but the Mailchimp offering is so boring that there is currently little point to using them.
When it comes to creating campaigns, AWeber offers a slightly different mechanism than similar marketing systems. You can use it to create follow-up series and autoresponders, and build your own, personalized messages with a handy drag-and-drop tool. Premade templates are available, but users are encouraged to design their own, more business-specific ones.
Now in terms of the content, is actually very easy to add and modify. It’s very similar to a WordPress post. So if you wanted to add something about why they should stay subscribed. Like why you should stay subscribed, right? Just type it in like that, you can hover over it, make it bold, make it bigger, change the font, whatever you want to do just like you would with then Word processor. So once you add all of the content that you want that’s thanking them for signing up and reminding them why they should stay in your list and offering to be there for any questions, it’s time to send out your test e-mail. Okay, to do that click on test and then put in the e-mail address you want to send it to and then click send test.
Aweber has been an extremely helpful e-mail marketing system. I am able to collect leads all over the web with a simple sign up form created directly on the site. I have an e-mail template within the system enabling me to personalize my e-mails and make them very professional looking. I highly recommend Aweber in order to collect leads and build a broader audience.
Cons: Stay away! Their RSS campaign did not send out for a while and then on its own sent out 6 emails at once really pissing off our readers they offered us a discount of 30% if we signed a two year contract after I said it was an inexcusable mistake which cost me hundreds of dollars in unsubscribes and possibly thousands and pissed off my entire email list. 30% off their inflated high price which they had just boosted was not worth it - i have heard many experts and users tell me of Aweber nightmare stories since my experience. I would recommend mailchimp as an option for basic users, i would advice all to stay away from Aweber
Okay, so you’ll be surprised that even though it looks good right here you can get some funky looking e-mails in real life and in an actual e-mail inbox and especially links can be wrong sometimes. So you definitely want to test every e-mail before officially adding it to your autoresponder sequence. But if you go to check your e-mail and everything looks good, click on back, then click on settings. Okay this will determine when the e-mail goes out and in this case because it’s your first e-mail, it goes out immediately after the person confirms. Okay, so that’s automatic for the first e-mail and once that’s done click on save and exit. And you’ll get the message that your message has been saved and here is the first e-mail.
AWeber customers pay monthly subscription fees based on the size of their email audience. This is a surprisingly simple and refreshing formula, especially in a culture when many competitors offer extra tools, extra templates and extra support only for those at the higher service levels. This “pay more/get more” approach also encourages the “bare bones” customers to consider upgrading so they can better access full premium services. But with AWeber, everyone gets access to everything, although the total amount of tools available is fewer than some competitors.
I've used quite a few other email platforms for mass emails and I have found that AWeber doesn't offer as much customization with creating emails. I like to create my own format for emails, and it's a little more difficult in AWeber than some other platforms. It's more of a basic service. I also am not impressed with the home page for the sole reason of not having the key things that I like to see when I first get to a landing page. This is more of a personal preference.
The kind of reports they have is totally exhaustive. For example user country and region, how many and when users opens your sent email and which links were clicked and how many people reported spam to your email sent is something awesome. Using the reports now I know when does a user prefers to open the emails and I send them just before their preferred time so my viewership of email has also increased.
Six tabs along the top of the screen direct you to Home, Messages, Customers, Sign Up Forms, Reports, and List Options. Some of these have drop-down choices. Links to My Lists, My Apps, and Assist, along with My Account, can be found in the upper right-hand corner. Your web page is an account introduction which displays brand-new customers, set up and just recently sent out messages, and list stats
