Having used Aweber for a few different reasons (online training program delivery, marketing funnel, client newsletter and updates) it has definitely been my go to software for email marketing. It is competitively priced and the functionality you get for the cost is great. I would suggest spending a period of time familiarizing yourself with (or watching Youtube demos) and testing the software though before adding in real clients. Many different templates make it easy to create emails. Easy to use styling keeps emails looking professional and in keeping with brand. Competitively priced. Autoresponders - setting up an email series has been fantastic for setting up new clients to our programs without bombarding them with information all at once.
So if you send an e-mail on Monday morning it might get buried with another me most so you may want to make sure that’s any afternoon. Okay? And then under click tracking this will track how many people click on the links within your message. Okay? That’s important for conversion rate, optimization to see whether or not people are actually engaging with your e-mails. And once that’s all set up click on save and exit.

Both Aweber and Getresponse have almost the same pricing structure if you closely analyze their pricing. You can get a lot of subscribers before you actually have to jump in heavily on the cost. But when it comes down to it, Getresponse pricing is lesser between Aweber vs. Getresponse. Aweber offers unlimited image hosting where Getresponse offers up to 1GB storage and you have to upgrade for additional storage.
Using Aweber, you can create ‘goals’ or combine automation rules with tagging to make autoresponders behave in quite funky ways...but if you want to make use of autoresponders in really advanced ways, you'll probably need to look at other products, particularly Getresponse, which provides 'marketing automation' functionality that hooks up to a built-in CRM.
Tom: Yeah, totally. So, I host our podcast so, I’m so used to giving this pitch, over and over again. But, I like to basically start by saying, “AWeber is an email service provider, first and foremost. We were founded in 1998, so I think that’s kind of important, the legacy behind it. In addition to providing the best in class email automation email marketing toolset, we also really pride ourselves in delivering award-winning customer service, some of the best educational resources to help you be a better email marketer.”
List management. It's easy to upload lists and add new subscribers. It is easy to clean up the lists as well. It serves well if you're looking a way to send out simple emails for a large list. It's also nice to be able to switch between multiple lists to see only the emails that have been sent to a certain list. In other platforms, this has been an issue.

AWeber finds a healthy balance in between ease of use and robust performance. There are some good functions– particularly in the autoresponder world– but navigation is instinctive enough that I was able to perform standard jobs without looking up tutorials. When I did find myself at a loss and relied on the online assistance resources, I was rather impressed with the variety and scope of assistance readily available.
But generally I just leave it pretty much like this and you can choose one of the pre-approved subjects that they give you which is basically different variations of confirm your subscription. Or you can create a custom one and you have to wait a day or so for Aweber to approve it and then you can just say something like this, we received your request, thank you just have to confirm an order to receive. Once you’ve done that click on save settings.
Marketing automation works in a similar way to autoresponders, in that emails are automatically sent to a mailing list according to a predefined sequence. But instead of time intervals, user behaviour is used to determine what should emails should be sent next - opens, clicks, goal completions, purchases, abandoned carts and more can all be used to trigger the next e-newsletter.
That’s the pitch I give on the podcast but, I really do feel like it’s more than just the software, just the tool. It is the heritage, the customer service, the team here. We have such an awesome team. We have over 100 employees here, right outside of Philadelphia, PA. Everyone here is just really dedicated to the success of our customers, but also the email marketing community. We do a lot, even outside of our customer base. But yeah, it’s all about our love for connecting you with your audience and helping you grow your business through email marketing, and through the inbox.
Tom: Yeah so, I think one of the problems that we see with AWeber, is because we are an older piece of software. We’ve been around since ’98. When you log in, there’s so much that you can do, because we have a lot of different features, right? So, you can either draft your first one time email, you can jump right in and set up your automated campaign, you can create your sign up form, you can import your subscribers from another ESP, or if you have another list somewhere else. So, it’s kind of a, “Choose your own adventure” that happens when you first log in and you set up that initial account. So, I think for customers who may be overwhelmed with email marketing and kind of the, “where should I go on the map?”, type of feeling, what we’ve done is, we have basically an onboarding email series that drips out over the course of 30 days during your free trial.
List Segmentation: I would have to say the number one feature is the ability to tag and segment subscribers based on their behavior. This allows you to follow up with leads based on the specific actions they take (or don’t take). For example can tag links inside emails so when your subscriber click on it you will know. You will have the power to create list segments based on any field in your database.
I’m really using it to develop relationships with my existing and potential customers in my field (physical WordPress training courses for beginners) by providing useful hints and tips. I’m sure I will introduce ‘offers’ for them to buy additional services from me (and affiliate products) in the not too distant future, but for now I’m concentrating on getting them to love me! 🙂
As of this writing, Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL, Zendesk, rocketmail.com, and ymail.com have changed their DMARC authentication standards to a DMARC = reject policy. Based on this information, Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL, Zendesk, rocketmail.com, and ymail.com email addresses cannot be used as your list's "From" address. Once these new standards are adopted, any email campaigns sent with those email addresses in the "From" line will require that AWeber send your campaigns from an alternate email address.
Hi Ana, I’m currently using Aweber and I have recently noticed that most of the big “gurus” have been using iContact – My understanding is that you can import your existing list directly to iContact without a double opt-in all over again. All this on a “honor” system but if the spam complaints go about “the” threshold – your iContact account could get shutdown.
