I love AWeber, too. There have been some complaints from prominent marketers about AWeber and it has to do with the number of people you have on your list. The more people you have on your list the more money you are charged, but, that is true for all auto responder companies. This complaint had to do with poor service in accordance with the amount of money they were paying.

The privately held company was founded in 1998 by CEO Tom Kulzer. Tom began his career in software engineering, but identified a gap in automated response software for sales leads and customer support. Tom addressed that opportunity by building an “automated web assistant”, which is now known as AWeber.AWeber can be seen as the original autoresponder software and has now grown to service over 120,000 customers in its 15 years as a privately held company.
Tom: Yeah so, I think one of the problems that we see with AWeber, is because we are an older piece of software. We’ve been around since ’98. When you log in, there’s so much that you can do, because we have a lot of different features, right? So, you can either draft your first one time email, you can jump right in and set up your automated campaign, you can create your sign up form, you can import your subscribers from another ESP, or if you have another list somewhere else. So, it’s kind of a, “Choose your own adventure” that happens when you first log in and you set up that initial account. So, I think for customers who may be overwhelmed with email marketing and kind of the, “where should I go on the map?”, type of feeling, what we’ve done is, we have basically an onboarding email series that drips out over the course of 30 days during your free trial.

The lack of a free plan also means you need to start paying straight away (or after the 30 day trial), and even the entry level offer is rather expensive for up to 500 subscribers at $19 per month. You get much more for your money with tools like ActiveCampaign. And while their later tiers are more in line with the competition, you can still find cheaper and with more features by using MailerLite, for instance.

When it comes to creating campaigns, AWeber offers a slightly different mechanism than similar marketing systems. You can use it to create follow-up series and autoresponders, and build your own, personalized messages with a handy drag-and-drop tool. Premade templates are available, but users are encouraged to design their own, more business-specific ones.

Pros: What I like most about Aweber the analytics that the application offers. Compared to other email marketing software in the market, Aweber offers the most specific options in terms of targeting people around the emails they get. For example, Aweber if you send out an email with a particular offer and someone opens it but doesn't click the offer, you are able to know this and decide on the next action to take to convince them to check out your offer.
Besides templates, editing options and strong support, it can host or import email databases; allow autoresponder customization; responsive email design, RSS and email-to-blog functionality; tools to collect and add new names/emails to databases; the ability to integrate with some other programs, and the ability to easily view analytics and performance results. 
This email automation platform is not the most advanced, there are others that are more sophisticated and produce a much higher email quality. This email platform changes the resolution of images, Also, adding blocks (for images and text, etc) isn't very flexible as far as the layout design goes. It is also difficult to customize the blocks (borders, sizing, etc). Finally, though Aweber will auto-save your progress, it does not save previously used fonts/colors, so each time you exit then go back into an email, you have to go through the customizing part to add to an existing email. The overall creative and styling process is terribly outdated.
I wanted a form of subscription that could be confirmed by email on the web page i'm creating and this is amazing, i got a lot more options than i expected, one of them is the option to schedule broadcast messages to your subscribers and you can even use templates on it to decorate according the colors of your website, you can also use integrations to gain subscribers from social media accounts or other platforms like Facebook, Wordpress or even Paypal; The email marketing performance is awesome! you can track how many people open your emails and what links they click, in that way you can do trial and error and you can do better advertising campaing by email, AWeber you made my life easier! Comments: When you go with AWeber, you get the complete email managerial package. Simply, opt-in forms are available to embed in your website, which AWeber used to collect subscriber details. You can send out fully customizable emails manually or on an automated schedule. AWeber further allows you to segment your subscriber list down by subscriber behavior and even target content, allowing you to choose who gets what, and when. Tailoring your content to fit your subscribers is basically a gauranteed way to increase your views and subscriber base and conversion rates.
When I talked about this with their support they suggested that if I wanted co-registration they can setup for me and all I needed to do was to fire an email to AWeber co-registration system for each user who register at my website with the details of the user. AWeber would have a custom parser for the email and add the user to my list automatically.
I’m really using it to develop relationships with my existing and potential customers in my field (physical WordPress training courses for beginners) by providing useful hints and tips. I’m sure I will introduce ‘offers’ for them to buy additional services from me (and affiliate products) in the not too distant future, but for now I’m concentrating on getting them to love me! 🙂
I have been using Aweber for the last six months and hadn’t really though of it as basic. But,when you see how much functionality is available with the other tools, I guess it is. I really like infusionsoft, but I don’t have the traffic or level of data to track ( as yet) to make an investment in a tool this complex right now. Really insightful article, thanks!
Aweber designs their system where everything starts with a list. You create a list and name it, and this is what all of your email campaigns will go into for each particular list. Think of the list as your file folder. It helps you stay organized for you to have multiple lists and campaigns going at once. All of your opt in traffic and new subscribers will always fall into your list. When you do your other software integrations with Aweber, you will always be choosing a list to connect that software to Aweber with.
Overall: I did not get many benefits and had a bad experience overall - i no longer care this happened months ago I am over it but since I am writing a review on software i have used, I would advise all honestly to stay away as my story seems far from unique and had other bad experiences which i don't have time to list - MailChimp is a pretty good alternative if you are checking out ESPs

As of this writing, Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL, Zendesk, rocketmail.com, and ymail.com have changed their DMARC authentication standards to a DMARC = reject policy. Based on this information, Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL, Zendesk, rocketmail.com, and ymail.com email addresses cannot be used as your list's "From" address. Once these new standards are adopted, any email campaigns sent with those email addresses in the "From" line will require that AWeber send your campaigns from an alternate email address.
At the same time, AWeber is a well integrated system that blends easily in every software ecosystem. You can use it seamlessly with platforms such as Cyfe, Launch Effect, Drupal, WordPress, Raven, Unbounce, Magento, and many more. The system is reasonably priced, to say at least, and therefore accessible to companies with smaller and larger number of subscribers. Plans start from $19 per month for 500 subscribers, and move to $149 for 10,000 of them. Teams with more than 25,000 subscribers should contact the company to obtain a special quote.

AWeber is all about hand-holding. There are numerous video tutorials to help you figure out what to do, and almost every field or option to fill out has a link that opens up the relevant help text. Unfortunately, live help is very limited. Phone and chat support options are only available during business hours. If you want the option to call at any time, you'll want to choose a service other than AWeber. Campaigner, for example, offers 24/7 phone support.
